Detailed role definitions and organizational structure for the ƒxyz Network holacracy implementation
This document defines the holacracy-based organizational structure of the ƒxyz Network, including all roles, circles, and their relationships within our distributed governance model.
Organizational Structure Overview
The ƒxyz Network operates through a network of interconnected circles, each containing specific roles that work together to achieve the network's mission of advancing decentralized finance and governance.

These roles exist in every circle to ensure proper governance and representation. Of the four structural roles, three are elected by circle members through integrative elections (Facilitator, Secretary, and Circle Rep), while Circle Lead is assigned by the parent circle. Only NAVIGATOR and FOUNDER tier members are eligible to hold structural roles -- see Member Tiers for details.
Circle Lead
Purpose: The Circle Lead role holds the Purpose of the overall Circle.
Assignment Method: assigned -- appointed by the parent circle's Circle Lead (Article 2.4). The Anchor Circle has no Circle Lead per Article 1.4.
Domains:
- Prioritizing and allocating Circle resources
- Establishing priorities and strategies for the Circle
- Assigning Partners to Circle Roles
Accountabilities:
- Structuring Governance to enact the Circle's Purpose and Accountabilities
- Assigning Partners to fill Roles in the Circle
- Removing Partners from Roles in the Circle when appropriate
- Providing clarity around priorities and strategies within the Circle
Rep Link (Circle Rep)
Purpose: Within the Super-Circle, the Rep Link role holds the Purpose of the Sub-Circle.
Assignment Method: elected -- chosen by circle members through integrative election (Article 2.5).
Domains:
- None assigned by default
Accountabilities:
- Removing constraints within the broader organization that limit the Sub-Circle
- Seeking to understand Tensions conveyed by Sub-Circle Circle Members
- Providing visibility to the Super-Circle into the health of the Sub-Circle
Secretary
Purpose: Maintain Circle governance records and facilitate governance processes.
Assignment Method: elected -- chosen by circle members through integrative election (Article 2.5).
Domains:
- Circle governance records
- Governance meeting scheduling and facilitation
Accountabilities:
- Scheduling required Circle meetings
- Capturing and publishing outputs of required Circle meetings
- Interpreting the Constitution and Governance upon request
Facilitator
Purpose: Circle governance and operational meeting facilitation.
Assignment Method: elected -- chosen by circle members through integrative election (Article 2.5). The Facilitator also facilitates elections for other structural roles.

Accountabilities:
- Facilitating Circle's Governance and Tactical Meetings in alignment with Constitution
- Facilitating other meetings upon request
Anchor Circle
Purpose: Realize the potential of decentralized finance through network-based governance and technology innovation.

Network Steward
Purpose: Steward the overall vision and long-term health of the ƒxyz Network.
Domains:
- Network-wide vision and strategy
- Cross-circle coordination and alignment
- External partnerships and relationships
Accountabilities:
- Communicating network vision to all circles and external stakeholders
- Ensuring alignment across all network activities
- Stewarding the network's reputation and brand
- Facilitating conflict resolution between circles
Constitutional Guardian
Purpose: Ensure adherence to both Holacracy Constitution v5.0 and ƒxyz Network Constitution.
Domains:
- Constitutional interpretation and compliance
- Governance process integrity
Accountabilities:
- Monitoring compliance with constitutional processes
- Providing constitutional guidance to all circles
- Facilitating constitutional amendments when needed
- Training Partners on governance processes
Technology Circle
Purpose: Build and maintain the technical infrastructure that enables decentralized finance innovation.
Technology Circle Roles
Technical Lead
Purpose: Guide technical strategy and ensure high-quality network infrastructure.
Domains:
- Technical architecture decisions
- Development standards and practices
- Security protocols and implementations
Accountabilities:
- Establishing technical standards and best practices
- Reviewing and approving significant technical decisions
- Ensuring security and privacy requirements are met
- Coordinating with other circles on technical needs
Blockchain Engineer
Purpose: Develop and maintain blockchain integrations and smart contracts.
Domains:
- Smart contract development and deployment
- Blockchain integration protocols
- Cross-chain communication systems
Accountabilities:
- Building and maintaining smart contracts for governance and digital finance
- Ensuring cross-chain compatibility and security
- Monitoring blockchain network health and performance
- Implementing privacy-preserving technologies (ElGamal, ZK proofs)
Full-Stack Developer
Purpose: Create user-facing applications and backend services.
Domains:
- Frontend application development
- Backend API and service development
- User experience design implementation
Accountabilities:
- Building and maintaining web and mobile applications
- Creating intuitive user interfaces for complex financial operations
- Implementing responsive design and accessibility standards
- Integrating frontend applications with blockchain services
DevOps Engineer
Purpose: Maintain reliable infrastructure and deployment systems.

Purpose: Foster a vibrant, inclusive community that drives network adoption and governance participation.

Purpose: Nurture community growth and engagement across all network activities.

Documentation Steward
Purpose: Ensure comprehensive, accessible documentation for all network participants.

- Ensuring documentation is current and accessible

Governance Educator
Purpose: Help community members understand and participate in holacracy and DAO governance.

- Facilitating governance meetings when needed
- Providing ongoing support for role holders
- Creating educational content about governance mechanisms
Markets Circle
Purpose: Enable efficient, secure, and innovative financial markets within the network ecosystem.

Operations Circle
Purpose: Ensure efficient daily operations and resource management across the network.

Legal Counsel
Purpose: Provide legal guidance and ensure regulatory compliance.

Role Evolution and Assignment
Role Creation Process
New roles are created through the standard holacracy governance process:
- Tension sensing around unmet needs or accountabilities
- Proposal to create new role with defined purpose, domains, and accountabilities
- Objection integration to ensure role clarity and effectiveness
- Role ratification and partner assignment
Role Assignment Criteria
Partners are assigned to roles based on:
- Tier Eligibility: The member's tier level must permit filling the role type. OBSERVER members cannot fill any role. INITIATE members can only fill custom roles. EXPLORER members can fill non-structural roles. NAVIGATOR and FOUNDER members can fill any role including structural roles.
- Capability: Skills and experience relevant to role accountabilities
- Capacity: Available time and energy to fulfill role requirements
- Alignment: Personal interests and goals that align with role purpose
- Network Health: Assignments that strengthen overall network resilience
Cross-Circle Coordination
Partners may hold multiple roles across different circles, enabling:
- Information flow between circles
- Resource sharing and coordination
- Skill development and network resilience
- Reduced communication overhead
Implementation Timeline
Phase 1: Core Structure (Months 1-3)
- Establish Anchor Circle with core structural roles
- Deploy Technology and Governance circles with essential roles
- Begin recruiting and assigning partners to critical roles
Phase 2: Expansion (Months 4-6)
- Launch Community and Markets circles
- Add specialized roles within each circle
- Implement cross-circle coordination mechanisms
Phase 3: Optimization (Months 7-12)
- Refine role definitions based on operational experience
- Add additional roles as network grows and needs evolve
- Optimize governance processes based on feedback and performance
