This thesis underpins the narrative, contrasting raw connectivity with the value of added structure. In essence, many diverse systems – from social communities to biological neurons or financial markets – share underlying network structures, consisting of entities and their relationships . However, raw networks (just nodes and links) often appear as chaotic “hairballs” with little immediate insight. Only by introducing structure, context, and semantics do these connections become useful. In practice, that means defining what the nodes and links represent (their types, properties, and roles) so the network can be understood and queried meaningfully. This structured approach turns mere connectivity into organized knowledge, reflecting the idea that connectivity alone isn’t enough – it’s engineered structure that yields utility.

In Holacracy, roles and teams form an interconnected network (a holarchy) instead of a traditional chain of command, echoing our “everything is a network” mindset.)

Illustration: Display a montage of diverse domains – money flows, social graphs, the internet’s topology, neural networks in the brain, etc. Each of these seemingly unrelated areas can be represented as a network of entities and relationships.
Message: “All share the same substrate — entities + relationships.” In other words, beneath different domains lies a common language of nodes and links. For example, social media friendships, financial transactions, communication links, or neuron connections can all be modeled as graphs (networks) . By recognizing this, we set the stage: if everything is connected, we need a way to harness those connections. Simply seeing the world as “one big network” isn’t enough, though. Raw networks are undifferentiated and noisy – a tangle of connections. The key insight is that we must add structure and meaning to this web of relationships to extract value.
Slide 2 — Networks ≠ Graphs
Content: Emphasize the difference between a raw network and a structured graph. A “network” here means an unstructured set of connected entities – think of a big cluster graph with no labels or types (the infamous hairball of data). By contrast, a “graph” in this context means a network augmented with properties, semantics, and directionality. In short: Graph = Network + metadata (types, weights, directions).
Visual: Show a before-and-after: a tangled hair-ball network versus a cleaned-up graph where nodes are colored by type and edges have labels. The “before” image illustrates that networks alone can be overwhelming and noisy, offering little insight. The “after” image shows that by assigning types or categories to nodes and edges (e.g. person, company, friend of, owns, etc.) and maybe weights or directions, the structure emerges from the chaos.
Explanation: Simply connecting everything yields a dense web that’s “impossible to analyze” without context  . When we enrich a network with explicit properties, it becomes a graph that we can reason over. For example, in graph database terms, a property graph has labeled edges and nodes with key/value properties  – this is exactly the addition of structure. Types and labels turn a generic link into a meaningful relationship (e.g. “Alice works at Company” instead of an unlabeled edge between Alice and Company). We also add direction where applicable (for instance, a “pays” transaction might be directed from payer to payee). This structured graph is far more useful: patterns and insights become visible once the raw network is clarified by semantics.
Real-world note: We leverage established ontologies (like FIBO) to provide these semantics. For instance, the Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) defines standard financial concepts and how they relate . By using FIBO in a finance-related graph, an amorphous network of transactions and accounts gains clear meaning – when you click on an entity or relationship, you can retrieve a definition or description (a “tooltip”) explaining exactly what it is. This ontology-driven approach ensures that our graphs aren’t just connected, but also unambiguous and self-explanatory, turning data into a richly typed knowledge graph.
Slide 3 — DIKW Axis
Concept: Introduce the DIKW hierarchy – Data → Information → Knowledge → Wisdom – and map it to the need for structure and validation at each step. The DIKW model is a classic framework illustrating how raw data can be refined into deeper understanding . • Data: raw facts, signals, or variables (e.g. individual data points with minimal context). • Information: data that’s been organized or structured so it becomes meaningful. Structure provides context – who, what, when, where. In our narrative, this corresponds to turning raw variables into an actual graph with schema. Indeed, simply organizing raw data into a structured form transforms it into “information,” where each element is put in context to reveal insights . (For example, listing many financial transactions as isolated data points isn’t informative; but linking them by accounts and dates and types yields information like “cash flows between entities over time.”) • Knowledge: information that has been validated, analyzed, and integrated. This is where agents and feedback loops come in (more on our Fixies soon). Knowledge in a graph means we have reliable, cross-checked facts and patterns extracted from the information. It’s the difference between a list of insights and an understood model. Validation (by algorithms or human experts) is key at this stage – we only call it “knowledge” once we trust it and it fits into a larger context or ontology. • Wisdom: the highest level – contextual awareness and actionable understanding. Wisdom asks “why?” and leverages knowledge over time to make predictions or strategic decisions . It’s not just knowing facts (knowledge), but understanding principles and making sound judgments. In practical terms, a Wisdom layer might involve scenario simulation, forecasting, or decision-support that uses the accumulated knowledge. (This often requires additional human judgment or advanced AI – as some analysts note, automated systems can gather data and even knowledge, but true wisdom often needs human context .)
Emphasis: Each upward step (Data → Info → Knowledge → Wisdom) requires adding structure, context, and validation to the previous layer. This is how we “move up the axis.” Raw data must be structured to become useful information ; information must be cross-linked, interpreted, and verified (often by intelligent agents or algorithms) to become solid knowledge; and knowledge over time, combined with context and experience, yields wisdom. The DIKW pyramid is often depicted to show that you gain meaning and value as you move up . Our approach explicitly builds these transformations into the system.

Stages explained: • Variables: These are the raw inputs – individual data points or metrics (they could be sensor readings, transaction records, user events, etc. – atomic “variables” in the system). At this stage, data is scattered and not yet connected. • Network: Here we connect the dots. Variables become linked based on relationships or interactions, forming a network. At first, this network is just a web of connections without classification – think of it as a graph of nodes and edges, but not yet annotated. This corresponds to the Data → Information step: we’re starting to organize data by showing how each piece relates to others. (The result might still be a hairball if taken alone, but it’s a necessary step.) • Graph: Now we impose structure and semantics on the network, turning it into a proper knowledge graph. We enrich nodes and links with types, labels, properties, and align them to an ontology or schema. This is where an ontology like FIBO can be applied to financial data, or other domain schemas for other data. At this stage, the “Information” layer is fully realized: the graph can answer basic questions because the data is structured (e.g., we can query “who paid whom” or “which components connect to this sensor”). The graph is now a source of Information. • Information (Insights): From the structured graph, we can derive informational insights – simple queries and reports that tell us what’s happening. However, to climb toward knowledge, we need analysis. This is where we introduce our agents (the “Fixies”). • Intelligence: The Fixies (autonomous agents) operate at this layer, performing analyses and actions on the graph. They might detect patterns, compute metrics, or infer new relationships – providing “intelligence” in the sense of actionable insights or synthesis. This stage is akin to what one might call business intelligence or analytic processing on top of the information layer. Intelligence here means the system is not static: it is actively drawing conclusions and proposing new knowledge from the information. For example, a Fixie agent could notice that a certain pattern of transactions resembles fraud and raise a flag (intelligence). Crucially, the agents also feed back into the graph: they might add new inferred nodes/edges or annotate confidence levels. This dynamic feedback loop means the graph starts to self-update and learn. • Knowledge: As the agents’ findings get verified (either by cross-checking with other data or via human experts in the loop), these insights solidify into knowledge. In our architecture, knowledge is stored in the graph itself – hence “knowledge graph.” The graph at this layer isn’t just a static dataset; it’s a validated, time-stamped, queryable knowledge base. Each piece of knowledge can carry provenance (who/what provided it, when) and confidence. The continuous agent-driven updates ensure the knowledge stays current (self-updating). Validation is key: the system might use consensus from multiple agents or stakeholder approval to mark something as confirmed knowledge. (This corresponds to moving from Information to solid Knowledge in DIKW, ensuring trustworthiness.) • Wisdom: Finally, with an accumulation of knowledge over time, the system aspires to a “Wisdom layer.” This is more abstract – it’s where the system can answer why things are happening and make context-aware recommendations or predictions. In practical terms, this could be dashboards that highlight not just trends (knowledge) but the likely causes and future outlook (wisdom), or AI-driven simulators that use the knowledge graph to provide strategic guidance. For instance, in a supply chain network knowledge graph, a wisdom-level insight might be predicting a disruption if certain patterns continue, and explaining the factors (nodes) contributing to that risk. Achieving this layer might involve advanced AI or human strategic input, and it’s an ongoing pursuit. (Many systems stop at knowledge; wisdom is the aspirational goal where the graph can inform high-level decisions autonomously .)
Integration: During the Intelligence and Knowledge stages, our Fixies (agents) are the stars – they are the dynamic actors that both generate new information (intelligence) and curate the graph (turning it into knowledge). These could be AI bots or algorithms performing tasks like data integration, anomaly detection, consistency checking, or user-defined logic. They ensure the graph is active and self-improving, not just a static snapshot.
Slide 5 — ƒ(xyz) Difference
Summarize what makes our approach special, tying it all together: • Dynamic, self-updating, validated graphs: Unlike a static database or a one-time knowledge graph, ƒ(xyz) graphs are living systems. They update in real-time (or near real-time) as new data comes in, thanks to the autonomous agents (Fixies) that ingest and process changes. The knowledge is continuously validated – errors or inconsistencies can be flagged and corrected by the agents or by consensus. This means the graph maintains a high level of trust and timeliness. (Think of it as a knowledge graph that watches itself and improves over time.) Other knowledge graphs often require heavy manual curation; ours automates much of that via agents. • Agents (“Fixies”) supply action + feedback: These agents are embedded in the system’s core. They don’t just analyze data in isolation; they write back into the graph. For example, a Fixie might infer a new relationship and add it, or observe a piece of data that contradicts existing knowledge and flag it for review. They also gather feedback from the environment (or users) – for instance, if a suggestion was useful or not – and incorporate that. This closes the loop on learning. In effect, both humans and AI agents collaboratively create and curate the knowledge graph, ensuring transparency and improvement . This concept is at the cutting edge of knowledge management – it aligns with approaches to decentralized and autonomous knowledge bases where agents and users work together to maintain accuracy . Our “Fixies” are our unique implementation, giving the network agency. • Tokens provide incentives & provenance: We introduce a token-economics layer to encourage participation and ensure trust. It often involves predictive analytics or strategic guidance, and may leverage AI plus human expertise to convert knowledge into prudent action .

One idea is a vertical split-screen: on the left, show the literal pipeline text (Variables -> Network -> Graph -> ... -> Wisdom as a snippet of code or schematic), and on the right, an illustration of each stage (maybe an icon or small diagram).
